Repertoire
This year, Portland Samba will be presenting a modern enredo in the style of Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro, in which the group plays the song repeatedly without stopping for the duration of the parade, with intermittent rhythmic variations throughout the performance.
The specific enredo, Xangô, is adapted from Academicos do Salgueiro’s 2019 carnaval performance. Portland Samba will pay tribute to the Salguiero samba school and to its bateria directors, Gustavo and Guilherme Oliveira, who visited Portland in May 2025 to provide world-class workshops to the community, and who led Portland Samba in a performance of the enredo in the St. John’s Parade.
